Ever since we started going to school we were taught to appreciate the value of compassionate heroism associated with careers dedicated to public service. As we grow older, those innocent dreams become quelled by reality, and we learn to direct our passion into relationships and situations outside of our vocation.
It was my first time to have my tooth extracted and I was really nervous, because I heard from my classmates that it was very painful. I refused to sit on the strange looking chair, and instead hid behind my mother.
After the irritating tooth was gone and three glasses of chocolate chip ice creams later I told my father that I want to be just like him. After high school I immediately enrolled at the dental program at Howard University.
I also took a job as a Dental Assistant at Donald Echols. My main responsibility is to assist in performing dental x-rays, and ordering supplies. I was also able to enhance my leadership qualities and decision making skills. Being a dental assistant was not new to me, I used to assist since high school I have been assisting my father at his private practice and had indeed learned a lot about dental procedures and gained hands on experience as well.
In addition, I also learned the importance of meticulousness, patience, and impeccable medical understanding in effectively minister to people.
I have set my sights in completing a Post-graduate study in Pediatric Dentistry. I am confident that the Pediatric Dentistry Program at University of Washington will enable me to develop skills in formulating a diagnosis and treatment plan for a broad range of pediatric patients healthy and medically compromised who present with simple to complex oral facial problems.
In addition I will also be able to build up my knowledge and proficiency in diagnostic, operative, interceptive orthodontic and surgical procedures for pediatric patients, including those with special needs with particular emphasis on scientific principles. Lastly with the programs help I will become a more qualified practitioner, consultant and advocate for complete dental treatment of healthy and special needs of children.
